HBOT

The human heart beats about 2.5 billion times over a lifetime, pumping millions of gallons of blood to every body part.

Taking care of the heart is essential to living a healthy and long life. But unfortunately, heart diseases are one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

Medical teams worldwide are continuously researching new ways to combat heart diseases; researchers are providing more and more results suggesting that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) could help. Join us to explore some key findings about HBOT and heart health.

Recent studies into HBOT and heart health

According to a study by a reputed Hyperbaric Medicine and Research centre, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve heart functionality when combined with other treatments as it increase their efficiency.

Healthy patients receiving HBOT to improve cognitive function underwent a 60-session treatment course using the regenerative HBOT protocols. Using high-resolution echocardiography, 31 patients were evaluated before hyperbaric oxygen therapy was administered and three weeks after treatment concluded to identify the sustained effect of the treatment.

The team observed “an improvement in contractility function of the heart – meaning, the heart muscle contracted more efficiency throughout the 60-session protocol.” Further research is ongoing.

HBOT and heart attacks

Every year, about 805,000 people have a heart attack—that’s one every 40 seconds.

A recent study using rats determined if hyperbaric oxygen therapy could reduce necrosis (tissue death) during myocardial ischemia. In this event, blood flow to the heart is reduced, often resulting in a heart attack (myocardial infarction). The study concluded that HBOT improved redox control and reduced mortality in the acute phase of a heart attack and improved overall cardiac function

Our thoughts on HBOT

While these researches are only the beginning of our understanding of the effect of HBOT on cardiac function and health, the results we have so far are promising. We continue to closely monitor HBOT and heart health research studies in the hope that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help combat this terrible disease’s effects.
